Geological Conservation

Introduction

Geological conservation is an integral part of our work. It is essential that we conserve our geological heritage for future generations, not only for research, but for education and enjoyment by all. In England, there are approximately 1215 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) with a notified geological interest, representing almost a third of the total number of SSSIs in the country. We also support geological conservation outside of the SSSI series through involvement with the voluntary conservation sector.
