Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund 2008-2011

The Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund has been launched again, with up to Ł5 million to award over the next three financial years. For further information on the new scheme criteria and how to apply please see 2008 to 2011 Grant Scheme. *Projects awarded 2006-2008* The Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund Project Board was able to fund 34 applications, representing an exciting and diverse range of projects that will contribute directly to Biodiversity Action Plan and England Biodiversity Strategy objectives. Project aims range from direct enhancement of biodiversity, engaging people in conservation work, and raising awareness among key stakeholders, schools, community groups and the general public. *Working to halt the loss of biological diversity*


The Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund supports projects that will help achieve the UK government's commitment to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010, through delivering the objectives of the England Biodiversity Strategy and Biodiversity Action Plans. The commitment to halt biodiversity loss was made by European leaders at the 2001 EU Summit in Gothenburg and the Countdown 2010 initiative is a Europe-wide programme which seeks to raise awareness of this target. The Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Action Fund is the new name for the Environmental Action Fund (EAF) biodiversity stream which was previously administered by Defra.
