Havergate Island

Four hectares in the north east corner of Havergate Island was set to become a managed retreat site in autumn 2000. Prior to this the vegetation within this area was mapped and recorded along additional permanent belt transects. Changes in vegetation following inundation with sea water have been monitored. Detailed topographic surveys were carried out and also programmes initiated to monitor accretion rates and sediment input.

Comment: No detailed information has been accessed. The scheme was promoted by the owners of the site - the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (http://www.rspb.org.uk/) where further information may be available.
