Saline lagoon states, summary

As salinity levels are the principle determinant of the nature of the biological value of saline lagoons this has been used to define the Status for this habitat:

  • State 1 - Low salinity levels, 6-10%;
  • State 2 - Intermediate salinity levels, 18-24%;
  • State 3 - Hypersaline.

Comment: The value of each of these states is considered largely from a nature conservation perspective in this Guide.
