Sea lyme-grass (Leymus arenarius)
use in restoring dunes
Planting Leymus arenarius one of the two
main dune building species is practiced in more exposed locations especially
in northern latitudes where it is most frequently found as an early coloniser
of bare sand.
Studies have been undertaken on improving seed production and seedling establishment
in order to help stabilise the large areas of mobile sand present in Iceland
(Greipsson & Davy 1997). Though mostly
non coastal the techniques are also applicable to coastal areas.
See Scottish Natural Heritage Beach
Erosion Management Guide.
