CHaMPs INDEX OF SITES

The Coastal Habitat Management Plans (CHaMPs) form part of a LIFE project 'Living with the Sea'. which is being undertaken to assess the impact of sea level change and the coastal defence response on important habitats protected under the European Union Habitats Directive.

Seven sites have been chosen to develop the Coastal Habitat Management Plans:

  1. Dungeness and Pett Levels;
  2. Essex Coast and Estuaries;
  3. Solent Coast and Estuaries;
  4. Suffolk Coast and Estuaries;
  5. North Kent Coast and Estuaries;
  6. Winterton Dunes;
  7. North Norfolk Coast.

These sites (and a further series of CHaMPs, which are yet to be prepared) will help inform the next generation of Shoreline Management Plans.

Comment: Information about the project, maps showing their location and interest can be accessed through the English Nature web site @ http://www.english-nature.org.uk/livingwiththesea/. Copies of the Executive Summaries of the CHaMPs are included on the CD-ROM. These have been downloaded from English web site and reproduced with permission @ http://www.english-nature.org.uk/livingwiththesea/champs/pilots.asp.
