Index to relevant restoration guides

There are a number of guides relevant to habitat restoration on the coast, which have been prepared by Governmental and non-governmental organisations. The most useful so far identified in the UK are as follows:

  • RSPB - the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is an especially good source for information on those habitats important for bird conservation especially wetlands;
  • English Nature has produced a number research reports and Guidance notes on habitat restoration;
  • BTCV - the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers has much practical experience in habitat management and restoration and have produced a manual specifically for sand dunes;
  • A Heathland restoration manual;
  • Scottish Natural Heritage - a detailed guide to managing beach erosion;
  • The Wildlife Trusts' Wetland Restoration Manual;
  • The Wildfowl and Wetland Trust guides to wetland restoration;
  • CIRIA - have produced two relevant guides for the construction industry: the first a more general guide to good practice; the second a more specific coastal guide.

Comment: This list represents a list of those manuals identified in this study, which are currently available.
