Seacliff - State 2, semi-mobile

As the frequency of movement decreases opportunities for structure to develop in the cliff occur. These may include stable platforms where ephemeral vegetation can develop, springs, pools and seepage zones. The rate of movement is intermediate between those apparent in State 1 (Eroding) and State 3 (Stable) helping to create and re-create a variety of mobile, semi-stable and stable features.

Caption: Unstable to semi-stable soft rock cliffs, located near California on the Suffolk coast. The vegetation includes a variety of herbs and some orchid species such as Anacamptis pyramidalis.

Comment: These sites are probably the most valuable from a nature conservation point of view.
