The value of cheniers
Cheniers
potentially provide a degree of protection to saltmarshes and sea walls. They
respond to storms by migrating across the intertidal zone and acting as a buffer
to waves and tides. When used in conjunction with artificial 'cheniers' which
are being constructed at several 'risk' sites on the Essex coast including Stone
Point, opposite Cudmore
Grove (Richards & Pye 2001)
they can help to improve the overall sea defence capability of the area.
