Natura 2000 codes and equivalent National Vegetation
Classification (NVC) categories
There are two categories covering vegetated shingle included in the EU Manual.

the basis for the selection of Special Areas for Conservation (SACs).

October 1999.
Comment: These represent a very limited view of the vegetation that
can be found on stable shingle. NVC communities, classified under other habitats
such as Maritime Cliff (MC), may be present. MC 6 Atriplex prostrata-Beta vulgaris
ssp. maritima sea-bird cliff community can be found on beaches, which are enriched
by organic matter deposited on the strandline. Single stands of some species
may not be classified at all. On the more mature and stable areas communities
can range from grassland, to heath scrub and in a few cases woodland (Sneddon
& Randall 1993a Main Report).
