Shingle beach by-pass systems

Where ever there is a natural (or artificial) barrier to the longshore drift of beach sediments involving the built-up of material on the updrift side, there is potential for erosion on the downdrift side due to the depletion of sediment. Physically moving the material around the area of perturbation, in theory will help restore the natural sediment flow and reinstate the protection afforded by recharged beaches further along the coast.
