Shingle recycling

Recycling refers to the removal of sediment by mechanical means from a beach which has received the material through longshore drift. It is usually employed where there is little of no new material being added at the updrift end of the sediment cell. The best example of shingle recycling is at Dungeness where the ness is maintained in front of the power station by removing material from the east of the site and depositing it on the beach to the west.
