Mowing at Kenfig dunes

Mowing at Kenfig Dunes, south Wales NNR has been an important tool in regenerating dune slack vegetation. Although it is labour intensive, requires a large capital outlay and poses difficulties in harvesting and removal of the cut biomass it has been used to as a first phase in the recovery programme of the rare Liparis loeselii var. ovata at this site.

Method involves the use of a tractor mounted pick-up mower. More drastic action involving the removal of soil sods and remobilising stable dunes (Jones 1996a).
