Contents of a management plan for habitat restoration

The following specification sets out to identify the main elements needed in a management plant. They are derived from Appendix 4a of the Saline Lagoon Manual (Bamber et al. 2001).

  • Owner/tenant of the site;
  • Location and general description of the area, including information on protected status if any;
  • A detailed description of the site, including the area of land which will be affected by the restoration work, current land-use, soil type, site topography, management history, hydrology, existing protective works, public rights of way, and any archaeological interest;
  • Features on adjacent land which could be affected by a the scheme;

More detailed information will be required on the following:

  • The feasibility of the scheme;
  • Design and cost;
  • Works to be undertaken;
  • Monitoring requirements.

Guidance: All schemes which require physical works to be undertaken will require licenses and consents for the work to be undertaken. These can be complex.
