Reedbed - biodiversity target
- Rehabilitate by the year 2000 the priority areas of existing reedbed
(targeting those of 2ha or more);
- Maintain priority areas of existing reedbed by active management;
- Create 1,200 ha of new reedbed on land of low nature conservation interest
by 2010.
The rehabilitation of reedbeds is also linked to a major campaign to increase
the bittern
population in the UK.
Comment: The national biodiversity targets are revised from time
to time and updated by the JNCC at http://www.ukbap.org.uk/.
