Sand dune - management for sea defence summary

Protecting sand dunes from erosion and shoreline retreat is a commonly observed management activity. A combination of approaches have been used including:

General guidance: All of these are designed to prevent dune erosion and help stabilise the vegetation in order to improve the functioning of the dune for shoreline protection. Overall these can have both positive and negative effects especially on the dune flora and fauna when dunes become 'over-stable'.
