Hindshore dunes

Hindshore dunes develop where prevailing and dominant winds reinforce each other. Wind can be blown some distance inland. This is a common type of dune in the UK. In its most extreme form it can develop into 'machair' and may form 'climbing' dunes where the landward has rising ground.
