Additional sections in the Guide

  1. Shoreline management - the Guide introduces the policy options for managing shorelines for coastal defence purposes. These are linked to methods of restoration and casework examples;
  2. Biodiversity - there are several UK biodiversity targets which can only be achieved through habitat restoration. These are summarised in the guide;
  3. Coastal squeeze - the process of coastal squeeze is described;
  4. Projects - there are a number of projects specifically related to habitat restoration funded through the European Commission, summaries and links to these are included. Information is also provided on UK Government funding opportunities.

In addition there is a limited introduction to the importance of ecosystems composed of more than one coastal habitat type as for eaxmple inthe case of estuaries and transitions between them.

    Further guidance: There is a vast literature from the USA. A summary of the situation at a few sites together with details of some of the more general guidance documents from that part of the world is provided.
