Abbotts Hall - monitoring

Monitoring to help predict the likely outcome of the realignment and provide a baseline for assessing future development, included details of the following:

  • The study area and its attributes. These ranged from the geomorphology of the system, its ecological and conservation significance to economic and landscape qualities, tourism and archaeological value;
  • The proposed scheme was analysed in detail including reviewing the 'do nothing' and 'maintain sea wall' options;
  • Further detailed investigation of the likely impact of the scheme both during the construction and operation phases and in the post construction phases.

Comment: In the case of Abbots Hall because of the high nature conservation interest of the area a thorough review of the implication for all aspects of the natural environment was undertaken. The approach adopted, particularly in relation to the Environmental Impact Assessment was very detailed, complex and time consuming.
