DEFRA - Review of managed realignment

The DEFRA / Environment Agency Flood and Coastal Defence R&D Programme commissioned a Managed Realignment Review (DEFRA 2002). The Project Report was published in August 2002 and sought to answer the following questions:

Chapter 2. Where has Managed Realignment been tried?
Chapter 3. What are the Drivers (Incentives) for Managed Realignment?
Chapter 4. What are the Constraints (Obstacles) to Managed Realignment?
Chapter 5. What can we learn from Experience of Managed Realignment?
Chapter 6. What are the Costs and Benefits of Managed Realignment?
Chapter 7. How can we realise the Benefits of Managed Realignment?

The document has been prepared by DEFRA and the Environment Agency (http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/) and identifies areas of concern in the delivery of managed realignment solutions for flood and coastal management. The results will be used to inform future guidance, but this document is not a statement of guidance or recommendations for good practice.

Comment: Available from DEFRA, though not through the Web Site - as yet. For more information see http://www.defra.gov.uk/ go via the WATER section and follow the links to "Flood management and coastal defence" where there copies of many relevant documents can be found, including those on Shoreline Management Plans.
