Remove sea wall in realignment schemes

Removal of a sea wall or embankment gives the most natural appearance and will least interfere with the processes that connect the saltmarsh to the mudflat.

Guidance: Evidence from trial schemes suggests that complete removal of the flood embankment exposes the site to the full of impact of waves, which can be counter productive in exposed sites. As a consequence additional protective measures may be considered including offshore breakwaters (as at Dengie where Thames lighters have been used). A breach is a much more frequently used technique.
