Fixed Point Photography

A useful monitoring technique is to set up a series of locations from which to take repeatable photographs on a seasonal basis on approximately the same dates each year. These can be tied in with permanent quadrats or transects. The key to all these approaches lies in the consistency (location, lens focus, direction and height) of approach, the periodicity of photographs and the timescale over which these are taken. The real value of this approach lies in the timescale over which the photographs are taken - the longer the better. When combined with historical information and maps they can be invaluable.
