Distribution of shingle in Great Britain

Shingle shores are found extensively around the coast of Great Britain, see Figure below. The largest areas are in the north west and south and south east. The shingle in the north west tends to be associated with beaches fringing sea lochs and in the south east major structures such as Dungeness in Kent. More detailed information on the location of shingle sites in Great Britain is presented separately for England, Scotland and Wales.
