The distribution of the more important coastal vegetated shingle locations in Great Britain are shown on maps for each country:

Many of these sites are Sites of Special Scientific Interest in whole or in part for their coastal vegetated shingle features.

Other designations of relevance to nature conservation are:

 

Case studies: Six sites in England were visited to collect information and experience on practical approaches to shingle management and restoration. Three further sites have been included to add to the range of examples. These are included in nine Annexes click on the map opposite.
