Other organisations involved in geological conservation in the UK

Scottish Natural Heritage, the Countryside Council for Wales and the Environment and Heritage Service are the statutory agencies with responsibility for geological conservation in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland respectively. The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) coordinates between the country agencies on UK-wide issues and initiatives such as the Geological Conservation Review.

UKRIGS is an association of RIGS groups, overseeing the RIGS scheme on a national basis. The Geology Trusts is an umbrella organisation for the country geology trusts.

The Geologist's Association (GA) has a strong tradition in promoting and raising awareness of the importance of geological conservation through its connection with local geological societies and by providing financial assistance for conservation projects through its Curry Fund. The GA has produced and distributed a code for geological fieldwork which emphasises conservation and responsible collecting.

The Geological Society, through its Geoconservation Commission, provides a forum for geological conservation in the UK. All of the major organisations involved in geological conservation are represented on the commission. In addition to the organisations listed above, the commission includes representatives from the British Geological Survey and English Heritage among others.
