Region: London
Applicant: The Mudchute Association
Relevant local authority area: Tower Hamlets
LNR(s): Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park
Proposed LNR(s): Mudchute Park and Farm
Ref No: LN/ES/01/14
Project duration: October 2001-May 2005

Project summary:
A grant was awarded to the Mudchute Association for practical work on two sites in the Tower Hamlets area and to support the employment of a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) over 5 years. The project aims to provide activities for the local community, especially those who are not currently engaged in maximising the biodiversity and educational value of the two sites.

Ken Greenway as CLO, will aim to raise the profile of the LNRs and raise understanding of environmental issues. He will attempt to build closer co-operation between the two sites and will look to develop innovative solutions to the management of inner city sites. The management objectives for the sites include the use of animals to maintain meadow and control scrubland at the Mudchute and at Cemetery and develop a maintenance regime that meets the needs of maintaining the historical interest and enhancing the biodiversity.
