Project title: Shire Brook Valley
Region: Yorkshire & The Humber
Applicant: Sheffield City Council
Relevant local authority area: Sheffield
LNR(s): Shire Brook Valley
Ref No: YH/HP/01/09
Project duration: December 2002 – November 2005

Project summary:
A grant was awarded to Sheffield City Council to support the employment of a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to continue the successful work that has been undertaken on the Shire Brook Valley LNR in the past. This project seeks to make the community driven ideas for the Shire Brook Valley, a reality. The ideas include the creation of an education nature trail and the production of locally distinctive metal artwork focusing on the history and wildlife of the Shire Brook Valley. In the visitor centre the project proposals include a two-way periscope linked to an outside bird box and the development of a mammal trail.

The CLO will: encourage use of the LNR for education; encourage and promote use of the existing visitor facilities; facilitate the development of an access for all trail; facilitate the development of an ‘easy going trail’ and audio information; and run an annual programme of events and activities to encourage understanding, enjoyment and respect of the site. The CLO will encourage community participation in LNR habitat management work and support the local conservation groups.
