Areas of Conservation

Sites are selected to provide the widest range of special marine features and management issues. The experiences gained from these sites will be made available to others in both the United Kingdom and Europe.

The sites and their special features:

S - Sandbanks which are slightly covered by sea water at all times
E - Estuaries
M - Mud and sand flats not covered by sea water at low tide
I - Large shallow inlets and bays
L - Lagoons
R - Reefs
C - Submerged or partly submerged sea caves
GS - Grey Seal
CS - Common Seal
BD - Bottlenose Dolphin
